Depending on the faction you play, the models you field will have to come from one or two Fire Teams. There’s an awful lot of boxes ready to go, of course, but given the global interest in this incredible set, it may not be enough. Rarely, with miniatures game starter sets, do you open the box and find yourself with more terrain than you need to play – but that’s what GW has pulled off here, underlining Kill Team’s focus on a close-up, detailed scale and atmosphere.

I managed to get this built up and painted to a battle ready standard in a day (due to needing this stuff together and painted in time for this review!Next up in the box we have something that people have been wanting for a very long time – plastic Death Korps of Krieg! In general, once the Kommandos get up in the Guardsmen’s faces, things swing in the Greenskins’ favour – and, when that happens, the gleeful melee mayhem these fellas can wreak will have them melting the heart of even inveterate Emperor-lovers like me. Missions and Narrative Campaigns are now a real and proper thing, and form the heart of the newest edition of Kill Team. Citadel Miniatures: Two full kill teams of Veteran Guardsmen and Ork Kommandos form the heart of Kill Team: Octarius, each featuring a wide array of customisation and alternate assembly options.

At a first glance, too, it might not be so obvious as to how some of the bits will go together – but trust the process, all will be well. This means that if you are suffering from heavy casualties and are heavily outnumbered it could be that your entire force manages to dig in and fire some desperate overwatch as a valiant last stand, which is an interesting balancing mechanic.
